"It was a Dark and Stormy Night.."
"Oh God, don't start it like that.."
"Why not?"
"It's so lame!"
"It's a classic!"
"Lame."
"Fine.."
Paige and Jubilee were lounging on couches in the rec room. An empty Sara Lee cake box lay on the floor nearby and a boy band writhed across the television screen emitting a howling noise as sugary as the now devoured cake.
"How can you watch this stuff, Jubes?" Paige's hand lazily scrabbled against the floor in search of a remote.
"Simple. Cute, half naked guys dancing. Don't even need to think about it." Jubilee propped herself up on one elbow. "And there's one for every body. Y' can't tell me there's not at least one of 'em up there that doesn't make you want to drag him into a dark corner."
Paige wrinkled her nose. "I dunno. Maybe. They're just so...saccharine."
"English?"
"Syrupy fake."
"Well, duh. They're as staged as wrestling." The younger girl shrugged. "Still nice eye candy."
Paige snorted as Sean's voice crackled over the intercom. "Girls? Are ye down there?"
Jubilee eyed Paige. "Do we gotta answer him?"
"Yeah." With a sigh Paige rolled off the couch and crawled over to the intercom. one hand snaked up the wall to hit the speaker button. "Yes sir."
"Oh, it's you Paige. Good. Is Jubilee with you?"
Jubilee gave Paige a pleading look and made shooing gestures with her hands.
"Um.."
What to do? Should Paige rat Jubilee out or let her go?
