A rainbow may fade
From the ethereal sky
Having touched the lives of many
Who feel empty to see it die
Like the colors so magnificent
A life has slipped away
Now Everett Thomas has left us
His colors gone from where he lay
Taken long before his time
And with him the world loses a glimmer of hope
So much strength for the future
A determined force where others only grope
The light within him
Proved brilliant enough to fuel us all
He was the tie that binds
Standing ever true and tall
His life was devoted
To selfless pursuits from the start
His belief in the purity of the soul
Nothing less than an art
Not a child's cry
Nor a friend's plea
Could go unheard
Without complete attention from he
The world never did see
Such a noble soul broken
For though he may be gone from this plane
A flicker of light is left as a token
Within family and friends
Will Everett's hope live on
For though his death may bring fear and pain
Realization will soon dawn
Whether he is a part of it or not
Those around him will see
Everett wants but one thing
And that is for the life to be free
Free of hatred, of anger
Of depression and stryfe
Free for friendship and love to reign
A world of the dove, not of the knife
He may not have been
A great leader of men
A mighty champion of justice
Or even adept with the pen
But a legacy will still survive
In the lives that he has graced
The inspiration of a dream
One that will not be defaced
So shed not those tears
See the world not in a darkened haze
Don a smile instead
For it holds power to amaze
When thoughts of the late Everett
Do pass through your mind
Do not dwell on his absence
But remember the times that were proud and kind
Believe in yourself
And in the strength of friendship
For Everett would have wanted nothing less
Than for his memory to bring hardship
And when you do again see a rainbow
The tapestry of colors alight in the sky
Remember not just one special young man
But what he would want to be remembered by
Goodbye, Everett Thomas. You will never be forgotten.
